The Mystery and Power of a Blessing

by Jack Thomas

This morning we went to church at Victory Chrsitian Center in Coitsville, OH.  Victory is the church that myuntitled spiritual dad pastors and my in-laws go to this church as well.  They just built a new sanctuary because of the tremendous growth that the church has experienced over the last several years!  God is doing great things at Victory!  This morning, one of Pastor Thomas’ close and personal friends, John Kilpatrick spoke and brought an amazing word on the john_kilpatrickpower and mystery of the blessing.  John Kilpatrick is most notably known for being the pastor of Brownsville Assembly of God that sustained the longest revival in American history which lasted five years.  This is actually a five part series but he brought the first part this morning.  I wanted to share some notes with you from this morning’s message:

The Mystery and Power of a Blessing

  • Prayer is Prayer, Prophecy is Prophecy, and Blessing is Blessing

Curses are anything you don’t want to see come to pass over a person, place, or thing.

  • We curse people, places or things out of embarrassment and fear.
  • If you recorded your voice for one week, you would be suprised how many curses you say over people, places or things (including yourself).
  • You behave in accordance to the atmosphere’s you have created in your life.  (Atmosphere of blessing or Atmosphere of curses).

Blessings are anything you do want to see come to pass over a person, place, or thing.

3 things you need to do to start blessing and create an atmosphere of blessing in your life

  1. Repent – Ask for forgiveness for any curses you have spoken of people, places, or things.
  2. Renounce – Recall what you have said and then resay it in the form of a blessing.
  3. Revoke – Snape the spine of the curse and break it so it can never take form again.

Can I be transparent for a moment? Is that o.k.?  This message has really opened my eyes to the power that a blessing has and the Kingdom work that it can activate in my life, ministry and family.  This morning I was challenged to speak blessings over the people I encounter and to be conscious of the things I speak to those people in my life.  I have been thinking back to some past conversations I have had with people and even things I have said or thought about myself.  I realized that I have ignorantly (not intentionally) said things that could be considered curses.  I have repented for those negative words and thoughts, I have renounced and recalled those words and have revoked the power that those words hold.  There is nothing like living and walking in the blessing of the Lord!

My goal from this moment on is to be a person that speaks blessings every day over the people that God has so graciously placed under my minisry.  I know for a fact that a desire of my heart is to create an atmosphere  of blessings in my home as well as in the church we will plant in 2010.  I want this atmosphere to be contagious and filter through the lives of the people in our church and community!  Living your life in an atmosphere of blessing will CHANGE YOUR LIFE!  No questions asked!

Let me speak a blessing over you right now:

“I bless you in the name of the Lord Jesus with power from on high.  I bless you as you walk and experience the presence of God that you will be able to discern and make wise decisions for you, your family and ministry.  May the favor of the Lord rest heavy upon your life as you pursue opportunities and open doors in life.  May the influence of the Holy Spirit in you impact those who you surround yourself with and minister to.  May you experience God in ways you never have before and I bless the spiritual growth that is occuring even right now in your life!  May the Lord be your guide, your counselor and your provider as you pursue the calling and will of God on your life!”
